                                                             Kalico Kares' Story

   Through the years of serving breakfast and lunch to our great community here in Spokane, we started doing community outreach projects. In 2019 we partnered with our son, Derek and his restaurant Benny’s in Cheney to fund-raise money for meals on wheels. We hosted a waffle cook-off. It was a great success, and our customers along with the community of Spokane really showed up for us and supported this event.

   The next year we contacted the Boys and Girls Club of Spokane. We asked if they had any needs. We put out a donation bin and made a flyer once again our customers and community came together and we were able to gather arts and craft supplies and provide them with the generous cash donation.

   Through these two outreaches, we saw our community loves to give, and if we can find the needs in the community, there is support and generous givers among us. So, over the past four years, we have been connecting generosity with needs in our community. It’s working and we love it. Here is a list of a few outreaches we have been involved with.

· Back to school fair – sock drive

· Backpack giveaway- Salvation Army

· Easter baskets and egg hunt, for Moms and Children at Ana Ogden Hall

· Bowling for Jesus- Teen Challenge

· Trunk or treat. – Sun City.

· Feeding the kids through the summer program. – Rick Clark.

· Summer meals in the park. Partnering with family of Faith – West Central Community Center.

· Gifts of Hope- Sun City Church

 

We feel God is calling us more, and we are stepping out in Faith to put together Kalico Kare’s nonprofit. We are so excited to gather together in one accord to bear one another’s burdens, and come alongside to lighten the load of others.
